IMGA WMG13WORLD MASTERS GAMES TORINO 2013BASEBALL + SOFTBALL

THE FIRST MAJOR GAMES.
AND I WANTED MORE.

Sport Director / Competition Manager across a global Masters environment: the first Major Games, the first event worked in English at this scale, and the first time a multi-venue competition operation became the centre of the job.

WMG13 was a professional threshold. The sport was familiar; the environment was not. Teams arrived from around the world, English became the working language and the baseball/softball programme had to operate as part of a much larger multi-sport Games structure.

I conducted the Technical Meeting in English in front of the team representatives, planned the sport programme and then directed delivery across the competition footprint. The calendar was dense, the venues were distributed and the working team was larger than anything I had previously coordinated in an event setting.

Before the title became part of my professional identity, the work was already competition management and venue management at scale.

The work began well before first pitch: competition formula, schedules, venue allocation, officials, results processes, team services and the translation of technical sport needs into Games operations.

Then came live delivery. More than two hundred games over eleven competition days, across four venues, with no game lost and no recovery programme required. That operational result is still one of the strongest memories of the project.

Not every part of an event survives in reports and numbers. This original archive film brings back the rhythm of the softball competition, the fields, the participants and the atmosphere around the World Masters Games.
